Attached pic is a partial schematic of my AQ131A. Can anyone tell me what part #39 is and what it does? I don't have one on my engine and I'm pretty sure that I never did.

For the life of me I can't figure out what it is and does. Anybody?

Its called a retainer. It's there to be lost and then mysteriously show up after the engine has been assembled and reinstalled in the boat causing that sinking feeling (pun intended) that you left a really important part out.

I believe this retainer is holding on the cover "33".
It flips in and holds it with the ear of the retainer.
This is assuming that it is similar to the AQ125 I have

Thanks for the input. I'll bet your right. Now to decide whether or not I really need it since I've gone so long without it.

Nah, I wouldn't worry about it. Of course nowthat you know about it you'll be worried sick everytime you take the boat out and eventually have to sell it because your stomach ties up in knots and the constipation is killing ya.

Yeah...that would be my luck...sunk by the lack of a $2 part. And of course, afterwards all the old salts would chime in and say things like.."Oh...you went out without a retainer bolt? Well....no wonder...what did you expect idiot?"

That's how my karma works.
