Doesn't matter what they used on your transom. Just but the stringers up to the transom and you can use poly for everything. It's not critical to have a good bond to the transom so if the poly doesn't adhere well to the expoy it won't be a show stopper in that area. VE resin is NOT needed. You might read the link below on Decks, Stringers and Transoms. You'll find it useful and will answer most your questions. YOu only need 1708 cloth, 10-15 gallons of resin, and some Cabosil and possibly some 1/4" chopped milled fibers.

Fwiw, I’ve ordered supplies 3 times now. I thought I’d calculated and planned everything out.... time, distractions, mistakes, wasted material all factor in. As suggested, order enough to get going. Proceed as needed.

Hey Woodonglass , does the glass just to the port side of the replaced section of transom there look suspect? as in simply draped over non-cleaned gel. same with above the transom, as no grinding under the new fabric/resin, or even to the bilge.

Thanks again for all the comments!

The lady at the supply store said she would help me out as well and get me going with what I need..

So - I don't need any CSM at all Woodonglass ?? I thought I would need at least some to put a layer of 1.5 oz CSM (or whatever thickness) on the underside of the decking I am replacing? .. and some to assist in the structural hold of the stringer to the hull?

underside of deck gets covered usually with csm.
There are different takes on covering the stringers in 1.5csm before the 1708 gets applied but it is not needed if you have a good surface.(without imperfections). The way stringers are done is like looking for a recipe online. you get about 1000 way to do it. Whats importand is that you have a min of 4-5" height going up on the stringers and about the same to the hull.
Grind it down and then wipe with acetone to soften the current hull. apply poly on the wood and let it dry. this will seal the stringer and prevent the resin being soaked up when laying the glass down. 2 layers overlapping 1-2inches each side. then cap with 1708 or csm to your liking.
Wet on wet when laying glass saves resin and creates a better bond.
soak the csm side first for 1-2 min and then apply. otherwise it will take forever to get resin through the woven.

CSM for the underside of the deck is correct. Some people just use 1708 on everything but But a bit of overkill. The 1708 HAS CSM stitched to it so there's really no need to add more. I DO think there appears to be some issues with the transom glassing but since I'm not there to actually see, touch and feel it's kinda hard to judge. IF the glass is spongy or moves then it should be cut out and a patch applied. Remember on flat areas it's mainly about sealing to keep water out. The connections to the hull are the MOST important areas to have no air or delam. For stringers, bed them in PB and use two tabbings of 1708 and they'll be fine.

Present a closer few pics of the transom work. It does appear a little off. Looks no tabbing for bilge drain area and sides as mentioned look skewed. better pics may help to clarify.

That is the only pic I have of the transom. The engine is back (since last July) in and I took it out 2 times last year without any issues...

Here are the supplies I purchased this last weekend however... got everything locally for under $300...

1. (7) gallons of polyester resin
2. enough MEK-P for 7 gallons resin - Slow activation
3. (1) gallon 1/4 inch chopped fibers
4. (1) gallon fumed silica
5. (1) quart cotton flocks
6. (6) square yards of 1.5 CSM fiberglass
7 (6-7) square yards of 1708 fiberglass
8. (10) mixing cups
9. (2) syringes (for measuring MEK-P)
10. (1) roller

The cotton flocks is just another additive filler to make PB with in addition to the fumed silica and chopped fibers...

I have never read or heard of anyone using flocking with polyester resin 🤔

I did buy the poly... no worries - it was cheap, even if I don't use it...
