by the way......how many iboaters live in Oklahoma?

Re: Looking for Boat in Oklahoma

Not sure what happened to the other thread you started, but:

Well, what type of boat are you looking for? What is your intended use? I assume you'd be going to GOTC or Lake Oologah, but the days/locations you will be boating is of some importance. How many people on avg will be aboard? Activities you intend on doing (cruising, fishing the banks, watersports, overnighting, etc)? Don't leave out searches in Arkansas and Missouri/Kansas as well being as though you're about as close Kansas City as you are to OKC. Craigslist is not a terrible place to look, and may find a cheaper deal than at a used dealer.

For GOTC on the weekends, I wouldn't recommend anything less than 20', and that really is a minimum anymore as the boats have gotten enormous there. If you are a weekday boater, then it doesn't matter too much without the 40' cruisers making wakes.

Re: Looking for Boat in Oklahoma

I worded my post wrong and it was deleted. No big deal.

Looking for a 18-21 foot bowrider, possibly bigger if it is affordable. Limit is around 15k. Would be used mostly for watersports and hanging out, some fishing. Yes I will be on GOTC alot. I live on the water around the Elk River so from everything I have heard it is not near as populated and you dont get the huge waves as the main parts of the lake. Probably an average of 4 adults on board for the most part.

Really, I would recommend most any 20' runabout. The 4.3L will be sufficient, but that's the lowest engine size I would consider. You should be able to find lots of them with 5.0/5.7L's. Chaparral, Four Winns, Sea Ray, Crownline, Bryant, Cobalt, etc are all quality boat manufacturers that you'll see in the area. You can probably find any of those boats in a late 90's to early-00's for the $15K area (Cobalts maybe not). I personally don't like the newer Bayliner/Larson/Glastrons, but that's just my preference. As with any used vessel, the way it has been cared for is as important (sometimes moreso) than the model year. Boats don't generally change much in design year-over-year, so I wouldn't be concerned with getting a newer boat at the expense of a few more hours on the engine. Keep an eye out on Craigslist for Oklahoma/Missouri/Arkansas/Kansas for a good deal.

Here is an ad in Skiatook that might be within your price range if you can talk him down a few $K. http://tulsa.craigslist.org/boa/2844494600.html

That is funny you posted that link. that is one of the boats Im interested in. His price has dropped 1k in the last month so he might be willing to go lower. Love the overall look of the boat.

Re: Looking for Boat in Oklahoma

Trim has a boat or two that he is interested in already, what we need is someone who may be able to help inspect these boats, So hopefully we can get him the help he needs, you know how sellers can be sometimes.

And possibly help give him the knowledge he needs to get a good boat first hand....

Can I jump into this with a few questions? How experienced are you? Are you comfortable doing boat repair work? Do you know what to look for in fiberglass to detect damage and repairs?
If the answers are no to any of those questions, I would suggest finding a marine surveyor and paying his fee to get any boat you desire looked over before committing to 15K. I hate wasting good money.

What randy posted. It is So hard to tell someone what to Buy, whithout seeing it. A surveyour(SP?) is the way to go.

A marine survey will probably pay for itself anyway. Anything he/she finds wrong with boat will help with final price.

It's a buyer's market, so paying anywhere near what a seller is asking is probably foolish.

Re: Need Help In Oklahoma

My original post is a little misleading. Really trying to find someone with more experience to look at boats with me.

I will be doing no mechanical work on the boat. This will be my first boat but I do have experience driving, loading, and unloading.

I'm looking at 2 tomorrow for sure, hopefully 3 and 1 more on Sunday.

Haha you're right BonairII.

Looked at an 05' Rinker Captiva 192 and a 03' SeaRay 200. Like the SeaRay much better. It had the snap on covers but had been sitting out so it was a little dirty but nothing that some elbow grease couldn't get out. The engine looked incredibly clean. Here is the link to it. Http://oklahomacity.org/boa/2876513943.html. What do you guys think?

Nope, it is in a holding lot and the guy couldn't get to it on Saturday. Kind of upsetting, really wanted to take a look at it. Would go down next weekend but the Grove Boat Show is then and I don't want to miss that. Hopefully it will still be available in a couple weeks when I can make it back down to Norman.

Yeah I know, Im trying to be patient.

A guy finally got back to me about another boat. 2006 Sea Ray 185 Sport. http://oklahomacity.craigslist.org/boa/2875756578.html. Real nice looking boat, told him I was very serious and would even drive down to OKC today or tomorrow to look at it and put it in the water. He said he would start it up in his garage so I know it runs but that it was winterized and couldn't get it on the water. Is this normal especially when you have a serious buyer? Also said he would try to find time in the next few days to dewinterized it, does it really take that long?
