I have a 1986 Ranger Boat and want to replace the steering wheel. In router to me is the wheel and the hub. I'm having trouble removing the hub or what the wheel bolts into. At the center of the hub is a, I would think is a 3/4" or larger boat. I removed that. But I can pull back the metal hub.

How do I do that?

you loosen the center nut, then get in a crouched postion with your knees putting pressure on the steering wheel, then you hit the nut with a hammer. no kiding. that'show it is done. if that doesn't work rent a wheel puller.

Yeah, and have the nut where it is hanging just over the end. If you hit the bolt, and not a nut, you will booger up the threads. You have to hit the nut, not the bolt.

Ok will give it try. Man that thing is on tight. Questio though..is there more than one wheel puller? I wouldn't want to get the wrong tool.

it takes the three claws,, with the bolt in the middle. gear puller. slip the claws behind the wheel and with the nut still on, tighten the center bolt.

Ok done...I ended up using a wheel three prong puller. I just visited a friends auto shop and he used his puller and I gave him 10 bucks.

It turned out nice. Nice looking wheel too. You can see all the new guages I got here at iboats as well.
