I hate to post this, but I couldn't find any information anywhere on this...

basically, I have an old Sea King (looks like a Midget Single from the pictures that I've seen) but cannot find the serial/model numbers on it.

The only numbers that I find are (what appears to be) "200079" on one side of the motor case and on the other (I think... I'm going off of photos that I took) I see a brass plug with the following:

04EA
88|2A
469
05734

(the "|" might be a 1... but I can't be sure)

Where should I look for this info? The side covers (and tiller, of course) are missing from the wee beastie as are any decals that it once carried. The only thing that identifies it as a Sea King is the top of the flywheel which carries the legend "Sea-King M.W.B.Co."

I'll take a shot at it, but could be wrong. I think it is a 1939, one horsepower made by Evinrude. Would be an Evinrude model 469. Does that sound good?

You need to go over to the antique outboard motor club's Ask-A-Member forum and ask there. Lots of guys there will be familiar with your motor. www.aomci.org

I'm going to guess based on your size description a 48-50 1.5 hp Sea king number 84GG9003A or 94GG9003B built by Gale. Gale number 1W5 or 1W10.
No Gale built 1.5 Sea Kings built after these. Numbers usually appear on the mounting bracket.Next size up is a 2.5 41-42 and many 3 hp.I believe all singles. I assume the M W is Montgomery Ward

The more I think about it the more sure I am that it is an Evinrude as I first guessed. Anybody wanna bet? Naw, I don't gamble, even on sure things.

Good call... I see a lot of similarities between that and my li'l Sea King... the throttle control arm is the same as, it appears, is the flywheel and the tank looks like a near twin. 'course the lower on mine is a much more primitive style... less streamlined... but I'm of the opinion that you're right... I'll have to hunt down some pictures of this Evinrude model that you suggested...

Here's pics of a 1940 Sea King (merc made and lettered K1) Serials are on the mount bracket. I've had this motor 33 yrs!
