the cast iron ford head on an aluminum block ,way different expansion values when overheated even slightly
drive is a very early one with most parts no longer available
Would not spend any money trying to restore this one. If you love the boats design that much, install a newer motor and housing from a donor boat.

its not an MC1 drive, guessing early 60``s by the serial number MerCruiser 0 (Sterndrive) 1965-1966

:welcome: to iboats Lucio,

Nice big Chief you have there. :thumb:

I would think about finding a donor boat for your restoration project. There's a good supply of older glass donor boats out there with newer Alpha motors and drives. Take a look at my Chief restoration and you'll see it's very doable and you'll end up with a boat that's better than new.

also when it starts i get water in the coming out my drain on the back of the boat (from inside) where should i start looking ?

thank you for all your help

did you put the drain back in the heat exchanger? The engine should have coolant/ anti freeze in it. If so I'm betting on the drain plug.

There are two in the heat exchanger, the AFT end one is sea water one... that's the one that gets removed to winterize the engine.

did you check the inline fuel filter on the inlet to the carb for restriction? sitting that long then needle in carb could be stuck closed not letting fuel into it.

If the fuel bowl is empty..... you should be able to disconnect the fuel line, and blow into the carb with your mouth using a piece of hose, if it wont take air, the needle is still seated/stuck. would have to disassemble and clean the carb...

Here is a link to series of videos by Alpheus on here, who made them on rebuilding a carb, in case you haven't done it before:

You could also disconnect the fuel line off the carb and stick it into a container... crank the engine over and see if gas comes out the line and into the container..
