I hope everyone had a nice holiday...

My thought for today that I debate in sharing with you all:

in the psychiatric world, hypochondriac describes someone who constantly believes that their benign symptoms, sometimes imagined, are indicative of very serious, underlying disease...

What is this called in the boating world? I think I have it whatever it is. I fired up the girl today in the driveway (yes, on muffs), and although the logical part of my brain sensed nothing unusual, the imaginative part was flashing through the 1000's of posts I have read here and all the possible sounds, smells, vibrations, etc. that others have put into words here combined with all the horror stories of cracked blocks and manifolds, blown head gaskets, fried impellers and water pumps, etc. I could almost see water pouring out of a crack in the block, oil spraying everywhere, and BOOM! the whole boat explodes...then back to reality.

This forum is wonderful for help when one has a problem, but you know you've been reading it too much when you're boat is running great and you still can't help but "imagine" something is wrong...

I guess it provides good motivation to keep up on the preventative maintenance...

Anybody else have this affliction? Maybe I'll start a support group if we can figure out a name for it.

It's a self-confidence deficiency disease called 'Eyedewmeownwerk'...the only known relief is a dosage of 'LetterRipWOT' taken at a minimum of twice daily. Nasty side effects can be eliminated by including the spouse during some of the medication periods. May possibly require frequent trips to warmer climates for maximum relief, do not mix with drugs and/or alcohol{may cause ticketitis}. There is no known cure at the present time, but with time and understanding this disease can be controlled and a normal boating lifestyle will prevail. Support raft-offs can be found in most major H2O activity areas. Incase of accidental overdose, immediately call upon the professionals at iboats.com and refer to reference # OICUHADIT2

Aquaphobia is a real thing! It's an abnormal fear of water.

I've had it too. I find the cure is to plan on a bigger engine when needed, then I can actually enjoy blowing up this one.

edit: unnecessary, political, td

BoaTox is the build-up of certain unknown compounds in the body, which if left unchecked can lead to blurry vision, abnormal hearing, redundant behavior, and in severe cases where the symptoms are left untreated for years, BoaTox can lead to death.

The most common treatment for this affliction is to bounce the body up and down for several hours, as if one were riding in a boat, hence the name BoaTox.... :D

Do you bite your nails
Do you have a bead of sweat rolling down your face
and a chill up your spine with a little weakness in your knees.
Does this all happen when you start your motor at the ramp?
Yup a clear case of boatobia.
Best cure for this is do a pretrip.

The proper and accepted medical term in latin would be:

Infractus Navis Phobia

Broken Vessel Phobia.

A rather common fear in boat owners based primarily due to an obsessive disorder of preventive maintainence....

a well known fact that Vikings suffered this condition and routinley would kill their slave rowers well before the 100 hour usage inspection time.
Although the specs stated that many slave rowers could go as long as 150 hours if not constantly ran W.O.W.
Thats Wide Open Whip.

Because it isn't the actual water causing your fears, I diagnose you with "motor sensory oversensitivity".
