'91 OMC Cobra 3.0 has engine oil coming out of exhaust while earmuffed. It's running very smooth but I can't launch because of slight oil in exhaust. I'm baffled. Before I started it (hadn't been run for seven or eight years) I put an ounce or two of Mystery Oil in each cylinder. Could the oil in the exhaust be the Mystery Oil? Doesn't seem reasonable: I've run the engine for, at least, twenty minutes. Any ideas would be appreciated.

how much are you seeing in the exhaust. Oil in water always looks like more than is really leaking. At least from my experience. I was leaking on the hydraulics and even after fixing it there was still the oil rainbow for a few days.

Thanks for responding. I'd guess that it's about a teaspoon full per minute. Before I got it started I put Mystery additive in each cylinder (about 3 oz. in each). However, I've run the engine for 20-30 minutes since then. I'm assuming the Mystery oil has been cleared from the combustion chamber. Again, thanks for answering back.

Where are you getting this "teaspoon full per minute?" Is the water "oily" or is it actuall oil dripping from the exhaust area? If it is actually dripping or leaking that much, you have a major leak somewhere.

When I earmuff/run the engine, the water that collects on the ground from the exhaust-discharge from the boat has a skim of oil on it that I would approximate as about a teaspoon full per minute (very inexact, but the best I can do with pure observation). I took several drops of oil off the dipstick and compared the oil in the exhaust with the crankcase oil: they're the same color and consistency. So, the oil isn't lube oil out of the outdrive. I'm stymied as to where the oil is leaking from? Any thoughts?

Ayuh,.....

Run it for 2 Hours,.....

That should make it 120 teaspoons Low on oil when you Check it......
That'll be enough to Show on the Dipstick.......

Personally,.... I think you're frettin' over Nothin'.........

I'm going to run it extensively today. Maybe it'll clear up. Perhaps I am frettin' about nuttin". If so, I'll get back with results. Thanks to all who took the time to comment!:):)
