Well I decided on my 93,I actually found a few articles and threads to back up my claim of the 93 being more powerful than the late models. Several people have had similar results with crazy power to weight ratios with the older models compared to the newer ones, why,I don't know. All I know is my 93 20hp runs near as fast and better than the 02 I have so once I step up to the 25hp carb I expect greater results. That is my next move,25hp carb. I just can't part with the 93 unless I get significant money for it,I had a guy offer me over 2k but I still refused because you won't find one that runs and is as clean as mine in my area. This motor is as clean as you can get,0 corrosion and not even a scratch on her. I love that new suzuki 25hp efi but I can't justify selling my merc for the same thing. I know it's newer, save gas,etc.... but it's also over 3k. I have a whole $1300 in this merc which is nothing if I get yrs of service out of her, well worth it to keep it to me especially when I won't find another like this for what I paid.

As far as the manifold gaskets, for they have to be done or can I do a if it ain't broke then don't mess with it. Is it a must, the compression is perfect on it and it runs awesome but I guess I'm just scared to break a bolt off,I have heard horror stories with those bolts. It doesn't leak and looks in perfect shape. How long could they hold up just out of curiosity? I have been told not to mess with it and some but not many say to change it. I don't know what to do on this one, lol. Like I said it doesn't leak and runs great but it is 24yrs old only used in freshwater.

Also,if I do this job should I put a dab of grease on each bolt to get them in and out easier next time like I do with the lower unit bolts and water pump bolts??????
