Re: Need help on the absolute most annoying pull start issue
Hey njsavelli, you've gotten good pro advice on your puzzle -- will add a quick shadetree suggestion. I think I would try to find a used recoil unit, check it out, lube it and make sure it's working, then install it before your next outing, being sure the nut holding the starter spindle is tight. But in the meantime, pull the flywheel and make sure nothing is binding -- coils are perfectly placed and don't catch the flywheel, wires tucked away -- everything proper. Then put the flywheel back and retorque the nut. Spin the flywheel clockwise by hand to make sure there is no binding whatever. Also try to rock it a little side to side to see if there is any hint of movement. If everything is OK, and new recoil assembly in place, see what happens. Make sure when you shut down and try to restart, the engine is in neutral, and the throttle is advanced only to the start postion.
I think Joe wants you to check for flywheel binding by hand at just the point everything locks up (not sure you had done that), if it happens again. And check at that point to be sure the recoil assembly nut holding the spindle (above) is tight, has not been loosened by action of the flywheel.
look forward to reading about your resolution of this thing.
