I replaced the coils, condenser, points, and rebuilt the carb. No problems there, motors runs great.

1968 seahorse johnson 40 hp.

upon putting it all back together, the picture below is a piece of the motor that I have no clue where it goes back on the motor. Please help me find a home for it on the motor. If it is not needed, then that works as well. I did take of the generator and left the bracket underneath the hand starter off, due to neither of them working and me not wanting to fix or replace them.

Please help!!!!!

Looks like the throttle cam.

Go to http://shop2.evinrude.com and drill down to your model number in the list to the left. You can see exploded view parts diagrams there. Look in the Magneto section.

Probably the upper mount for the generator you eliminated? Maybe you can find an on line PDF file with exploded view.

It's the flywheel guard - mounts on the underside of the pull starter.

Is there a picture of where it goes by any chance? i tried looking at diagrams, but have not found one yet.

Thanks

You can kinda see a rub mark from where it rubbed on something, the recoil maybe, you should be able to match it up to the iopposing rub mark not to mention the matching up the mounting holes.

I will keep looking, but haven't been able to line up the holes with anything!

Here's a pic - one of the holes actually has one of the starter mounting bolts pass through it.
