Re: Need Help Raising motor 1990 j/e 140
You have the wrong manual because the real manual has 44 pages devoted to the tilt/trim. The factory book is money well spent, approx $40.

On the port side of the bracket, should be an oval hole, look inside,
there should be a machine screw with a circlip to prevent it backing out completely.
Use an impact screwdriver to loosen if needed, or a square shaft screwdriver with a wide blade and put a wrench on the shaft, its really in there good,
back it out to the circlip and then lift the leg, takes a bit of pressure to get it moving but once it starts keep going and have something ready to slide under it like a sawhorse.
Tighten it the same way, put a wrench to it, 45lbs torque.
