I've been having trouble getting answers, and I think the reason is beacuse I'm not asking a clear question. So I decided to make a quick video explaining my problem, and I'm hoping someone can offer advice.

Based on a previous picture I posted, someone else said "the powerhead adapter is coming off with the powerhead and it looks to be bad". Do I just need to use excessive force and pry this rubber adapter off the powerhead?

Thanks,

Aaron

Check out shop.evinrude.com, drill into the pages for your engine, go to the cylinder and crankcase section and look down on the right bottom of the pic. Zoom in and you will see parts referenced #s 70 and 74. The description is "upper mount retainer".

Is that hanging you up?

The guy talking about adapter plate raising up is referring to other engine designs. There is typically a 1-2 inch machined plate in between the powerhead and the midsection, but yours doesn't have one.

By the way, I guessed at your engine, picked a 1999 175 FFI and that is where I got the parts reference from. If this is all wrong,

"never mind"!

OK, same design. Did you even look at the page to check #74 and 70?

(On your motor it is #74 and #9.)

Re: need help removing powerhead

Work got in the way and I'm just now looking at the diagram. #74 is "retainer, upper mount" and appears to be fastened by #9 "screw, upper mount retention".

The diagram isn't helping me very much, but are you saying to remove the #9 screw and #74 retainer? If so, is the #9 screw one of two 3/4" bolts, or is it the approx. 7/16" bolt, between the two 3/4" bolts, that I can see but not reach? Do I need to remove the motor from the boat to get to that?

Thanks again,

Aaron

Don't know. I never pulled a head off a 60* before.

The description looked promising as a possible missed bolt.

You will have to look very carefully to see if you missed something.

Got an Evinrude service manual? What does it say?

I will try to find out more.....

Those two 3/4 " bolts have to come out to get the p/h off. Try an impact gun.

Re: need help removing powerhead

Couldn't get to the bolt with any type of drill or gun, but I did get them removed. I used a socket wrench with a pipe extension for leverage and turned as far as I could to get 2 clicks on the socket. Then two more clicks at a time until it started turning freely without twisting the rubber.

Thanks for the help.
