I am a newbie to the boating world, but I know some of the lingo. I have a 1983 Skipjack bass boat. The captain seat in back of the boat is pulling through the wood. When I checked the wood, it was completely rotted. The foam underneath is fine. How do I replace the wood. Sorry I do not have any pictures at this time. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Iboats, you are in the right place...the helpful community here will be able and willing to guide you through the "fun" your about to experience!

check out virtually any of the restoration threads...you will find a wealth of information, and an eye opener to what you can really expect to find beneath that rotted floor. Your first post sounds very similar to my own and I have completely gutted mine now. Some excellent threads to check out are Oops' Hull extension. Friscoboater's Searay, and Woodonglass' Flamingo.

A visual inspection of the foam is probably not going to be sufficient. If the wood has been cracked and rotting for any period of time then there's a good chance that water has gotten below deck and the foam has been saturated. You can do a core sample of the foam using a piece of 1 1/2" pvc pipe, cutting some "Teeth" into one end and then sawing it down into the foam until you hit the bottom of the hull. If the foam is dry all the way through then Lucky You. If not then you're in for a Big Adventure. Fixing the wood on the deck is the easy part. Let us know what you find.

I will pray that your stringers and foam didn't look like mine. There are some good restore threads on here to check out. The guys on here are very nice and helpful. Just try and read up. you'll find some GREAT restore threads. And the legendary thread... check out oops above hull extension. That will teach a lot.
