I have a 1989 4.3 OMC that I need to replace the exhaust flappers on. What I can't figure out is how to get to them! I remove the bolts holding the exhaust manifold to the head, and loosen all the clamps holding the rubber/exhaust parts together, but all I can do then is slightly rotate the manifold. I can't turn it enough to get it off the studs so i can lift the assembly up, and i can't get the clamped rubber parts to slide up or down enough to disassemble. the only option i see if to try and remove the 4 studs from the head so i can lift straight up... any ideas or tips that i need to know? I've heard this was a pretty simple job..... and it seems that it would be if I could just get to them!

wd40, and keep working a thin screwdriver around, between the hose and metal, until you can twist it off.

No need to pull a manifold, you remove just the riser/elbow,loosen clamps holding the hoses.

I had an 89 OMC 4.3L and took the manifolds off several times. Double check that you remeoved the bolt tucked way in the back. As already suggested, spray some WD40 into that rubber boot. Then, just crank away and try several angles...trust me. It will eventually slip off. If you still have problems, try posting pics.
