Re: need help (stumped)

the bulb should tighten yes after a few pumps. If you're pumping away you're flooding the carbs.Someone will jump in with the exact procedure to remedy this, im no carb expert.

Well, partly anyway. The fact that they don't shut off the flow of fuel when you are priming indicates they are bad, or not adjusted correctly, or the float valve is leaking. Or you are mashing on the primer bulb super hard.

I don't think any of necessarily explains why it cuts out. But it could.

Floats / needle valve installed upside down?

I saw somewhere that the floats, if you look from the side should be parellel to the bowl

Interesting problem there, McQueen. Sounds like two problems though. Too much fuel - carbs dribbling when you pump primer bulb and too little fuel - shutting down at WOT.

I'd fix the carb problem first. Once the floats shut off correctly, then maybe the other is simply changing the primer bulb and making sure there are no air leaks into the fuel line between the tank and the bulb. Sure sounds like something is starving out your engine at WOT and you've not indicated you addressed the external fuel line & primer bulb yet.
