I would say that is probably an earlier MC1 which is a bolt in swap With an alpha one. Giveaway will be the lifting eye on top of the drive

can you post pictures?

you need to make sure it is the right ratio for your application. Can remove the top cover to see

Its a typical alpha one looking drive. Not an MC1 or a gen 2 .I know it is a simple bolt on matchup for my needs BUT not knowing what engine it was mated up to is a problem that I dont want to find out the hard way. Charlie

Your serial number belongs to a 1986 MERCRUISER MC1 1.98:1, Model number 01989016 stern drive.

Thanks, the year span looks correct to me compared to the alphas I currently have 1988.. The ratio is not gonna work since I have aV8s .I was under the assumption that an MC1 drive was what is called a pre Alpha with the lifting eye on the top of the upper.?? This drive def does not have that. What engine is a 1;98 for??? Thanks again Charlie

yes was off on serial number . 1.98 is for a 3.0 4 cylinder . V8 will take a 1.47 or 1.62 ratio.
