I purchased a Princecraft super pro 176 with a 2 stroke , 6 cylinder 115 Mariner outboard. I don't know the year of the Motor and the id sticker is partly worn off. motor.JPGIMG_2096.jpg

I know its a long shot but I was hoping someone could help me identify the year. The only #'s on the sticker are " 0B37 ". I'm almost positive that it's a 1988.

Pull the cowl and look for an aluminum disk on the block, it will have the serial # on it

I would say it is a 4 cylinder

Thanks for the reply , i'll check the block.

I am fairly green at boat motors but doesn't six spark plugs amount to six cylinders?

So is it a V-6 motor with a 115 decal on it.?????-----With more pictures of the engine we might know what you have here.

Well I guess that may explain why the decal on the cover/trim below the cowl is missing, and why the Serial# is mutilated

So i was finally able to get my boat out of storage. Unfortunately there's been issues with flooding so i haven't been able to get to it till today. I took some pictures of the motor and I'm hoping someone can give me some info on this motor. I checked online on those numbers on the block and came up with nothing. Are those numbers a serial number?

Serial # shows as a 1989 model. It will be one of the faster 115s on the lake. As for the horsepower? That serial # is in the range of numbers shown for all the V6s; 135, 150, 150 magnum, 175 and 200. Is there a decal on the air intake silencer, that shows the max advance, and Pickup Timing?

Gee, would putting a 115HP decal on a V6 motor fool anyone?

I could see putting a 9.9HP sticker on that motor to get under the 10HP restriction they have on some lakes. No one will figure that out....

When the Optimax line first had a 115(mid to late 2000s), it was a V6

Its a late1988 2L 135/150 as it has the 16 amp stator.... and that new style rectifier/regulator wont live long the ways its mounted as not a good way to transfer heat.

Thanks for the replies, they're well appreciated. My tag doesn't say "cadet" for nothing.

History: When i bought the boat last fall a few issues came up after a month of use.

The starter would stay engaged after i turned the motor over an the alarm would sound and stay on after a few minutes of running.
I was able to find local mobile mechanic look at it before storing it and he told me he would have to replace the solenoid also the oil alarm was faulty and that the regulator should be replaced because it was looking burnt.
He replace the regulator but couldn't get the other 2 parts because the serial number was missing. He actually left the other parts disconnected while trying to get the right parts. It sat like that for over a month and he wouldn't keep me updated. I had to re assemble it myself to winterize the motor .

Last week I sent him the new numbers that i found on the engine and he told me he would look into it. I don't think it takes a week to verify a serial number and I'm sick of his not answering my texts so i'm going to try and get the parts myself cause i will loose half the season waiting for him.

Jimmbo,,,,, I'm not sure where the intake silencer is  so i don't know if there is a decal there. I did buy a repair manual but i cant find that part or its location on the motor through the manual.

Chris ,,,,, I agree, why go through all that trouble, I'm wondering if maybe that missing serial# on the bracket has something to do with it....

Faztbullet.... how should i mount the regulator.

If give a supplier the serial number i found on the block will i get the proper solenoid and as for the oil alarm should i actually change it?

White arrow pointing to Air Silencer. Mercury often had a Decal/Sticker with Year, HP, Max Timing, and Pickup Timing listed on it

There's no decal on the air silencer but i did take this picture of the top cover. It says Magnum 2 so does that make it a 150?

That’s a 2.0 motor for almost sure. 135/150. If it’s a magnum...more likely a 150 from what I can gather. Surprised that 115 cowling fits it...unless it’s a decal change ??
