need help tuning my rude

hello again, <br />Im trying to get a 71 25hp evenrude model#25102-03,tuned and ready , I cant seem to find the<br />main harness plug anywhere and my shoulders about to pop,so i ran jumper cables to the motor<br />and just tap the starter <br />ahyhow it started but runs rouph then dies. it has an electric choke butwithout the harness i have to run a wire to it.the choke looks relly old and the boot is missing but it does go in and out ,another thing i dont understand is this little vacumm hose that goes above the fuel pump<br />on the cylinder and runs to the front of the motor,when it started for about 10 minutes the top cylinder got so hot it melted that hose,I checked the #1 plug black and soothy)#2was soaked)like no spark,<br />So freind my questions are,shuold i rebuild the carb? does the kit include the electric choke spring and boot?someone gave me a part#396701

Hi, Fishman.<br /><br />Forget about tuning for a while. Let's get her running and cooling first.<br /><br />Do you have a manual? Which one?<br /><br />When was the impeller last replaced? Is it running on both cylinders(or is it a 3)? Is there water running from the tell-tale?<br /><br />Let us know.

Fishmann66,<br /><br />If your engine is a '71' it won't have a tell-tale. You should see good amounts of water coming from the exhaust relief port, in the middle of the leg.<br /><br />If your top cyl. is getting hot, it's time for an impeller and/or thermostat service. I would do both.<br /><br />Once, done, it might also be a good idea to retorque the head. Remember, it's in INCH pounds, not foot pounds.

Hey guys<br />im looking at a seloc john/even71-89manual.<br />this is actully my first boat motor I"ved owend,but i do have some automotive ex ,little different thou.about the only thing related is that there both a combustion engine.but i will try and change the pump-impeller thing, even in cars the cooling system is one of the most important things.and im looking for a carb kit with the electric choke parts or should i remove it all together and use the manul lever?
