NEED HELP WITH 1984 50hp Mercury (stuborn starter)

I have a 1984 50hp mercury, it doesnt relibly start and after several trys when it does start it shuts down. I have to put it in full throttle for it will start and continue going
i have checked the starter
thats not it
it has been in the shop twice and i have replaced several parts on it, but nothing has worked
anything i can try before i take it in

Probably needs a good carb cleaning, and link and sync. I'd take it in and get it done right.

it was in in the fall and they said it was fixed but i finaly was able to take it out and its the same problem


but thanks for the help ill take it in and see

anyone got any other ideas?

hey
i have an update i think its fuel related
i cleaned the fuel tanks and checked the fuel senders
there clean
but in the bottom of the tank was a little bit of yellow cystals not much
what could this mean???

btw i took it out and tryed it again and it has execesive smoke when i start it
is this normal
btw sorry its a 1984 not 1987 as i origonaly typed

hi hope you are back in action ,if not give your carbs a good clean out ,if it has been unused since autumn the petrol can have evaporated leaving a sticky mess to block up your slow running jets you slould rebuild your fuel pumps while you are at it ,the kits cost very little and are easy to do .Jim B

sorry it took me so long to get back to u i lost the link

the boats now running perectly:D

took it to another shop just after i posted last and now its fixed and i used it alot this summer now i am getting it ready for winter
