NOTE: Someone will come here, no doubt, and tell you to raise the outboard even further. They're wrong. Those outboards are meant to run deeper than modern ones, and the 5" lift is correct.

CAT

Doing this will lift it 6"....Is that going to be OK. Or should I saw the 2x6 to a 2x5? Or is it not that big a deal?

Thanks

Blue area i have always use a 2x6 is 5 1/2 inches, it should be perfect as is.

Except Where the dark blue line is, transom goes back about 1.5". So should I put a 2x4(RED) there to make up for space? And maybe add another bolt(GREEN) on each side to help with the 2x4?

Perfect!!!!!

you draw better than me.

As TD said, a 2x6 is actually 1 1/2 x 5 1/2. You don't need to do anything, since the extra half an inch won't matter a bit.

Sounds like you're on your way!

Either could be OK, or either could have problems when you get it. Don't forget the shipping costs, either. Shipping outboards can be problematic. I packed mine myself, very carefully, and it still had a cracked cowling when I got it. No biggie for me, cause I don't care.

Ebay's OK, but you do take your chances there. You can get a good one, or you can be very disappointed.

You are right there.

I guess all you can do is check out the feedback and make your best judgement. The feedback for the 1962 is 100% positive. The one for the 1963 is 97% and plus if it isn't perfect I at least have this other motor for parts.

The 1962 looks really nice, but he is asking for 595.00 plus shipping, so that would put me over 650.00 total.

Not sure what to do. The motor I have is fine, I just wish it was a short shaft. I don't know if I have the confidence/faith in myself to mess with the transom project.

To me, selling my current engine and getting a short shaft motor is easier.
