Hello, newbie here, just bought a Skiff with a 1976-1978 (Have not identified the year) 25hp Evinrude motor on it. Where can I locate the model number so I can get some parts? Motor had good compression and runs great, but there are a couple maintenance items I want to do to it and need the model number. Any help is appreciated.

First look for a tag on the stern bracket, it should contain the model number

If removed, check for a 'welch' plug. It will be on the top rear of the motor, about the size of a quarter.

Chris - I may be blind or stupid, or perhaps both but I cannot make heads or tails of that diagram. I found some numbers on the bottom of the bracket where it sits against the transom, 3197 09-1 but can't get anywhere with those. I'll look for the plug on top of the motor when I get home.

It's not a real good pic, but the white arrow points to the ID tag on my '77. Click on the pic to enlarge.

And . . . you won't have much luck going that route. Most of those numbers are casting numbers and not part numbers.

Look hard for the welch plug. It should be just behind the heads on the top of the motor.

Here's the top of the motor behind the cylinder head. No welch plug.

Been comparing schematics looking at differences in the look of things from the engine cover to the crankcase and ruled out 1976 due to a change in the engine cover design after then. Man this is driving me NUTS!!!

SG heres a couple pics of my '76 the one of the motor is the plug which is right below the bottom coil. Well I could only get the one of the plug to load, hope this helps.
