1992 ChrisCraft 223 Cuddy Cabin with chevy 5.7L and OMC drive.

Having a problem with a boat I just had serviced...... frustrated and very pissed off.

I wanted to have my boat serviced as it was shifting rough and sometimes did not want to go into gear without stalling. I tried raising the idle a bit as it was low but that did not help. I am not a tech so I called around to my local shops but they are all overwheled with work and could not look at it for weeks.

I found a mobile guy who assured me he could fix it, as he swore it was the carb. After reading on here I thought othersie and advised the tech to replace the lower shift cable, along with the shift interruptor on the motor and some other wear items like the gimble bearing, new gear oil and bellows. $900 later I get it home and the button on the shifter/throttle was sticking. Mobile repair guy is being a complete scumbag pulling no shows 3 times and now just not returning my calls so I had to see if I could fix the button myself. I'd love to post his info so others stay away from him.

I took my shifter/controls off the other day to have a better look at it as I wanted to see if I could lube it. It's a few years old and thought it may need some grease or a new spring behind it. I now can't get the cables back on. They don't seem to work properly as one will work but the other can't mount to the gear on the back without casuing a problem. What the heck? Did I do something wrong by removing the cables from the shifter, it was a simple pin holding them in place, figured I could lube it and then just put the pins back in, not the case???

Can anyone show me a link to a diagram of the shifter and how the cables go back on???

Let me know if more info is needed, I tried to cover everything.

Great for engine parts but doesn't show the throttle / control assembly...? Unless I missed it.

Post a picture of the control you have.

By the way, in case you are thinking about lubing the cables themselves, don't bother. Just get new cables.

Throttle goes up top and shifter goes on the bottom, but it will not move back and forth freely, the lower shift cable was just replaced and all of this was adjusted according to the tech. Why will this not go back togeather and shift smooth? Do I need to re-adjust or is there something I am missing with the re-install...?

You may have already tried this but remove the shift cable and make sure the throttle moves freely. Then remove the throttle cable and re-attach the shift cable and see if it shifts sans the throttle cable. If they both work separately then you have something assembled wrong in the remote control assembly.

try this; http://epc.brp.com/Index.aspx?lang=E&s1=16bd0612-b28f-4421-a1ca-6ca60631db63

I found this on the site suggested above under "SD Accessories"

Thanks for the info, it shows the remote but not how to assemble the cables onto the remote or any procedure for how to re-install and adjust said cables. I also took each leag of the cables off and tried each one seperately to find each worked fine except the lower shift cable that was just replaced is very very stiff and hard to move. This part was just replaced a few weeks ago and the boat never even made it to the waterbefore I noticed the shifting problem. Can anyone shed some light on what may be causing the stiff feel with the brand new cable???

So I took it to a shop after the overwhelming response I got on here. Turn out it needed a new gimble housing and shift linkages/shift bell link? Is there a place on the forum to report scumbug mechanics that rip people off?
