I came across an old Elgin 2 stroke outboard motor, its a 7 1/2 horse power. I am trying to figure out what the fuel/oil ratio should be. no one I have talked to knows anything about this motor. I can't find a plate on the motor to find out the year or anything. i'm guessing its late sixties early seventies. anyone have any suggestions?

Pretty tough without a model number. If it is from the 60s it is most likely a McCulloch built and probably mostly white. If from the 50s it is West Bend built
probably olive or dark green.Last west bend motors were 59.Fuel mix is 16:1
West Bend became Chrysler in 66.66 and 67 6 and 9.2 hp are 24:1 with the with what appears to be the same bearing setup.Chrysler didn't supply Sears at this time.
If it is from the 70s it may be an Eska which uses an aircooled Tecumseh power head. and is a single cylinder.
Look carefully on the mounting bracket for a number beginning with 574 or 571.
If no numbers give us a detailed description.

Multiple posts are unwelcome, Wirdsbald. This one is in the right place. I will delete the other one.
