Neighbors grandson came over with a 1973 65hp Johnson model 65ESL73R. She ran great the first three or four times out then one time would only go like half speed. Seemed like a fuel issue so we replaced the fuel pump, hoses, connector, tank, checked the carbs(they were clean) and plugs. Didn't help. So we replaced the coils and power pack. Didn't help. When you first take off it acts like it wants to go, then doesn't. She has great compression 128-130psi. Starts and idles like it should. I'm at a loss...could it be the stator, trigger, ???
