I just obtained a 4-stroke electric start outboard. I'd plate is painted over or missing. The only numbers on the motor is on the silver round plug on the left side of the motor which is 23 023580. Also 3580 is stamped into the 2 halves of the block on the left side. I looked up the part number of the Hitachi starter and it appears it is for a 15 - 25 HP Suzuki, but I can't verify that. Can anyone lead me in the right direction to identify the motor?
Thank you

Look at the carburetor(s) and the CDI box if you know what that is. What numbers/letters do you see.

I'll have to look. Propably have to take some stuff apart. CDI box doesnt have any numbers on the outside where I can see. Also, I forgot to mention that I don't have the top cowl either. Previous owner stated it does run. If nothing else, I'll part it out or look for another of the same model if I can figure out what it is.

Finally had a chance to explore further. The carb has no numbers except for the throttle butterfly, and that is 180. It only has Mikuni Corr Made in Japan on the side. I did find a number on the crankcase behind the starter. That number is 1SZF-052. Another number on stamped into both halves of the crankcase is K058. Pics are attached. Also, Suzuki could not identify the other info I had. I will give them this number and see if that helps.20260408_145610.jpg20260408_150546.jpg20260408_152335.jpg20260408_152727.jpg20260408_150612.jpg

I think I have narrowed the model down further, someone correct me if I am wrong. I realized this morning that the motor does not have an oil filter. The best I can find is that the DF9.9A is the only model that did not have an oil filter. Now if I can just figure out the year.

I'm going to correct myself. It does not have a spin-on oil filter. It is behind a bolt-on cover on the port side, down low on the crankcase. Looking at the parts diagram on Crowly Marine I believe this is the correct motor, and the 023580 is the serial number, meaning it is a first year range production model.
