Need help with installing harness.

I spent two hours yesterday trying to install a new wiring harness. I ran a snake and got my pull lines straight, but when I try to pull the harness in the last section between the access port in the side of the boat to the center console (only 2') it jams every time. I realize the conduit has a lot of other things in it, and I taped down all sharp obtrusions to make it as small as possible. I have tried pulling both directions. The old harness came right out. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

I use Silicon sliding spray on occasion to help things like this slide, You'd be surprised how well it works. I just got done spraying my snowblower, and snow shovels, it really helped to get, & keep, the latest (Wet) snow from sticking to them.

Thanks guys. I will give it another try today with a lubricant. Didn't think of that.

Regular liquid dish soap works the same as electrical lube. and try to make the head of your wires as small as possible maybe even just one wire at the end of your snake and the others a little down stream from it.

Unfortunately you already pulled your other wires out cause if you used them to pull in your new wire instead of a snake it would be a lot easier.

Re: Need help with installing harness.

I pulled the old one as more of a test than anything else. I thought it would hang and thought a single pull line would stand a better chance than two harnesses together. The new harness has twice the # of accessory plugs as the old one. The larger plugs (6&8 pin) are the ones hanging up. I try to tape over the right angles of them to make more of a cone shape, but they are still hanging. They have to go through the area that the steering, control cables and hard fuel line go through and those willl not give any. I will try to streamline the harness more this evening. Thanks for the soap idea.

OH it's plugs on the end that are hanging up. You might have to cut them off and reconnect them after you get them through.

I was kind of thinking you were just having a problem with a fish tape (electrical snake). The head of which is actually harder to get through a lot of times especially when your conduit is full already, in which case using a wire to pull is a lot better.

Keep at it I'm sure you'll get it.
