need help with lower unit

i have a 1982 johnson sea horse 35 hp that i got for free. the kicker is it needs a lower unit. my question is what all lower units will work with this one? example 20-35 hp... and what years... im no boat motor expert but i know they used the same lower units for several years and on several different motors. any help would be great, and if you have a lower unit for sale that would be even better, or if you know where to get one for my motor. also would a manual be helpful as the housing is what broke all the internals are still there allthough i would like a complete lower as this would be easier to change i think thank you for your time and god bless

you can take a look at the diagrams and parts list for your motor here.

If its just the gearcase, that's easy enough to replace.
You can compare part numbers for the gearcase and see which years are compatible. Hopefully the experts will chime in and help out though.

You can find a manual and used parts on ebay. Sometimes you may be better off finding a parts motor.

When you find out what you can use check Eaby, I was putzing around the other day and saw several lowers for 35s cheap.
