Ser# J150GTLCUR is listed under a 1987 150 HP. Could it be that someone has swapped out the lower unit from another motor. You might have to sit down with the parts breakdown and try and determine what you have.

In late 1991 Omc went to a two bolt/tab design that holds carrier in place and a 2 piece driveshaft, if it has 4 bolts in the front of carrier its a 1991 or earlier. What parts are you needing as there was a propshaft diameter change also?

Any chance you have a commercial 155 lower unit on the engine? They have different parts.

Most of the 1987 differences are between large and small gearcases. The large gearcase has 15 splines om the propshaft, the small has 13.
