4348 shows up as a 2HP 1940 model. Does this sound like the motor you have?

Welcome to the outboard restoration hobby. You need to check in over at the Antique Outboard Motor Club. It's at aomci.org Lots of experts over there on those motors. See the Ask-A-Member forum. They even have a Webvertize want-ad page where you can advertize (free) for a carb.

Incedently, that seller has a controversial reputation over there. I ain't sayin' no more.

Wow that is some serious crap. You would think a guy who appears to sell a lot of similar items would know if it didn't have a carb!!! I guess we know now how much faith to put in the "I was told it ran" that appears in these types of auctions so frequently.

yeah after talking with him for a while via email, he said he would find a carb since it was not metioned in the ad, he said that because it was a cheap motor he didnt waste his time to check it out more thouroughly, which i didnt think was right, but he's gonna fix the problem so thats good. other than the carb missing it seems to have great compression and is in good shape.
