Need help with sears 14 hp engine

I can’t find any information on this outboard, I found a some stamped numbers inside the motor, 64601410, 2998! Any help would be appreciated! Is this a vintage motor not worth fixing? Can I find parts for it? Thank you

I think it maybe a McCullough early 60s 1963 if I read the numbers properly

For sure it's a Scott McCulloch. Can get them running still. you'll find those parts, but if it needs more than that your SOL.

Right now I’m now I’m not getting spark, I need to check the plugs to see if they are bad first! I’m hoping the coil isn’t bad! Where’s a place to find parts? I can find anything on the stamped numbers

You can find other ways to gain ignition if your creative as well. My guess is replace the condensor, file and set the points. replace the plugs and shoot some mix ( absolutely not ether ) into the carb. If it's got some life, you'll find it
It's a cool boat/ motor package. I love old sears stuff. But keep oars handy

McCulloch sorry for the spelling.show some pics of what's under the fly wheel.just because u may not find exact parts doesn't mean give up.sometimes there are other types of coils that do the same job.there are different ignition systems that can work sometimes.

Old points and condenser systems can easily be changed to electronic ignition now days at a cost less than new points and condencers.

So I’m pretty new with anything outboards and anything this old, does a condenser send the spark? I was thinking it would be an ignition coil! If so the site you listed above has one! Also do these engines have a kill switch and it also has a forward and reverse I wonder if that could be messing with the spark? Thanks for the reply

there should be a kill switch which grounds the coil. The condensor absorbs some of the charge across the points so that they do not burn. there is more to it then that, but that's a big function of them. When they go bad, they absorb all of the charge and your left with no spark.. It likely has no spark interrupt for shifting. change the condensor, and gap the points and see if you can gain spark. If you do it will run if it has good compression

Just checked the compression both cylinders are at 100psi so that’s a great start

Have any information or a site that you can send me to look at about newer ignition coils?

Something like the Nova II transistorized ignitor ( dirt cheap on Ebay ) might work. It's not marine rated but under a cover it might not matter.

Without trying to reinvent the wheel though, replace the condensor, and file/ adjust the points to see if it's got life

Universal ignition modules are the same as nova11 they look identical and are a bit cheaper.

Do you have a volt meter to test coils with.i think you can test condensers to but I don’t no how to test either.

Theropshop is about the best place for universal electronic ignition modules.I've used them on a few outboards and was impressed.

Need to c a picture of your ignition to no if there are any choices of coils.if its the same as the 7.5hp than lots of inexpensive replacements but they seem to change things on different models.

So I got spark, got some new plugs and she fired right up! Changed the lower unit oil and have it in water! It ran really good until it heated up but I’m having a hard time adjusting it! Do you guys have any advice on the main adjustment and the idle adjust? A good starting point? Thanks so much everyone for the advice I almost gave up until all of you helping me! Thanks again

I would take the adjustment needle out and make shure its not damaged.you would likely need new packing before putting needle back in.usually its 1 1/4 to1 3/4 turns back after closing it lightly.may not be exact but it should start at 1 1/4 turns and be set from there.
