Hi, to all, I have a 1975 Starcraft 16' Mariner with a 25hp Evinrude engine. I'm in the process of restoring her, new flooring , transom wood, carpet, seats & pedestals, interior paint & exterior paint. In the future I want to outfit her with a 50hp engine. I thought I would get rid of the original cable steering system, & upgrade to a single cable/ rotary system. My question is do I go with a Uflex rotary system, or a teleflex system? Do I need a no feed back style (safe-t II)? I dont have any steering problems with the old set-up, & with low horse power I'm not sure which style to get? Thank you all in advance, jonnyd

My rebuild on a 16 Starcraft Super Sport I replaced the Steering with a new Uflex Rotary by TelFlex It required less behind the dash space and was a non return Type. If you have side steering you will most likley need a 13 ft cable but measure it to be sure. I would always replace a cable with a modern type. Safty first. Sounds like you will have a fun project. I got the same ^

No issues, it did require a larger hole to be drilled into the dash

and hammer a block of wood in the smaller hole, for the hole saw to center on ;)

when confronted with that issue, i've also clamped a block with the centering hole already drilled to the back of whatever i needed to cut the accurate hole in. altho it might not be as much fun as using the BFH to hammer a block into the hole......:D
