Just getting boat ready for spring fishing and now I having this alarm keep beeping at me. I'm getting strong discharge of water from pilot discharge hole (pee hole on the side). While alarm is on, I can pull water cooling sensor and I see water pouring out. I check the sensor and it seem to work fine. Then again, sometime alarm goes off after starting the motor and then comes back on again. Couple times, ran for about 15 minutes with no problem. FYI I'm using muffs. I dropped the lower unit and put a garden hose right to the water tube and seems like alarm works (off/on). As far as impeller, it is new. It seems like might have problem with water pressure or air pocket?? Any help will be greatly appreciated.. Ron

Re: Need help with Suzuki DT65 cooling sensor problem

Just wondering, when I was testing, water poured out of cooling sensor hole.. should the water be gushing out ?? Saw someone posted that water shot out about 6 inches ??? If water suppose to be shooting out 6 inches, I'm not seeing it on my motor. Do you think I might have some kind of blockage? Ron

Put the motor in a running condition ie with the lower unit in the pond with water above the pump. Run it and check the temperature of the heads. If they are reasonably cool to the touch then your sensor is probably at fault. Are you sure that it is the water sensor or could it be oil sensor. To test the sensor when it is acting up just disconnect it and the alarm should stop.
If you are running in salt water and not flushing with fresh after use you can get a build up blockage. Can't help you there except to say it will be a motor tear down. Of course if the pump is not performing well then that could be the problem. If the pump housing or plate are scored then the pump will not be working strongly enough.

James, thanks for your reply... I know it is cooling sensor, because I can flip the contact up and alarm goes off. Do you happen to know how much water suppose to come out of cooling sensor hole in the idle ? Cooling sensor is about year and half old.

I run a DT140 and have run all kinds of Suzuki's. They are well known for putting out a strong jet that puts a dent in the pond. A small amount of scoring will greatly reduce the water flow.

Re: Need help with Suzuki DT65 cooling sensor problem

I'm getting strong water discharge from pilot discharge hole (pee hole). Seems like not getting enough water pressure (flow) to left cooling sensor up to turn the alarm off all the time. Because couple of time, alarm did go off after starting the motor, but came back on few minutes later. And another time, it ran for over 15 minutes without alarm coming back on. Seems like I'm right at the edge of it going off and on.

Re: Need help with Suzuki DT65 cooling sensor problem

I got my problem fixed for now.. I was ready to take cylinder head cover off to look for blockage or something. I called Browns Point to order gaskets, but before ordering the gasket, I asked him about my problem. He said something inside by cylinder head where this sensor mounts is stopping the movement of the sensor. He said might be salt or buildup. When I pulled the sensor and looked it closely, I noticed that one side of the flipper have been rubbing. So I scrapped the inside cylinder head wall. I didn't hardly take any salt or build off, but now it works every time. Maybe I should file down cooling sensor flipper where it seems like rubbing to give bit of margin.
