Greetings all,

I recently had a problem with my Mercury 115hp Outboard on a pontoon boat. It has been working great for two years, but yesterday under heavy load the transmission began to slip out of drive.

Does anyone know how to adjust the cables or whatever I need to do in order to prevent the motor from slipping out of gear.

Thank you,

OutBoard Noobie

Lots of 115 hp mercs out there, might help to post the year, serial number, colour band etc.

Appreciate knowing those things are important. It's a 1997, SN 06538391 with Black housing. Unsure what you meen by colour band. Anything else that would help?

an outboard's gearcase is direct drive...there is nothing to slip with the exception of the propeller's inner hub...take the prop to a prop shop and have the hub checked

Thanks ZZZZZ, you were right on. I installed a spare and it's working pretty well. The old prop is fairly chewed up so I think it would be better to buy a replacement. How can I find out what prop is correct for this engine?
