Hey guys. Have a 1982 Evinrude 140. I'm trying to hook up the tilt/trim from the shifter to the control box. I bought the control box used off supposedly the same year engine but I don't think it was. Coming from the shifter I have the green/white, red/white, and blue/white wires. On the control box the wires I know are the power and ground, and the 2 thicker green and blue wires that to go to the trim pump. Then I have a set of green/white, and blue/white wires, a pair of blue/white wires that are connected together, and a 3 wire triangular harness with what looks like a white/tan, light blue, and white wires going to it. Not sure how to connect them to the wires on the shifter. I looked in the fsm but it doesn't show the same diagram as what I have. Also there's a diagram inside the control box but it only shows green/white and blue/white wires going to it. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Here's a pic of the wires if it helps.

Re: Need help with trim/tilt wiring

Thanks for the diagram Joe. It looks more like what I have than the diagram in my fsm. Here's that diagram.

Here's a pic of the diagram inside the box. It doesn't show any red/white wire.

Here's a pic of the box. Needs a little cleaning and a relay :).

It looks like the blue/white and green/white wires are like they're supposed to be. I don't see anywhere to hook the red/white wire up to. Is it needed? Really appreciate the help!

I just looked at the diagram I sent and had no problem tracing it... perhaps because I knew where it went in the first place. Perhaps the diagram is a little too small. It can be copied and blown into a larger version or if you give me your email address in a private message, I can send you the larger version.

However, the Red/White wire is the wire leading from the PTT switch at the controls. This is the wire that supplies power (12v) to the PTT switch. Normally it is connected to the Red/Purple wire at the junction box, HOWEVER if you desire, you can also connect the Red/White to the "B" terminal of the ignition switch if you want voltage going to the PTT switch all the time OR you can connect the Red/White wire to the "A" terminal of the ignition switch if you just want voltage going to the PTT switch ONLY when the key is in the ON or START position.
