Hi,

I recently inherited from my dad a Johnson 4hp outboard. The Model number is J4RCEC and the serial number is B 7938979. From what I can gather from reading posts and following links is J=Johnson, 4=4hp RC Rope start in the Model number and B in the serial number is Belgium, which is all correct. I still can't figure out the year.

Also, is a 50:1 oil mix ratio correct? I kinda remeber him saying this a long time ago. Using next weekend and would appreciate any help.

Thanks,

Vitap, as far as I can see it is a
1998 4HP Ropestart commercial

Here is where I got the information.
http://www.marinshopen.se/guide/omc/omc8098.htm

As far as the B in the serial number. I can not read the language on the site so you may or may not be correct.

Thanks Scoop,

I know it is not a 1998 model. He has had it for many years and maybe 1989 would be more correct. I looked at the same site but couldn't determine the year either.

I read swedish!
1989 it is:
J4RCEC
J=Johnson
4= 4HP
R=Rope Start
CE=1989
C=Model Run or Suffix

It could also be a 1998 but now we know it isn't:
J 4 R CE C or J 4 RC EC but then there is one letter missing.

Fuel/oil mix 50:1

Have fun!
:)
