Need info and some advice on new to me Mercury 15HP

Hey guys

Got a sweet deal on a I think is a 90's 15HP motor. 120 PSI on both cylinders and pisses like a race horse. Didn't check L/U oil yet. And is missing a tiller but I'll grab one off Ebay.

Came with controls though.

1)One coil is cracked, can I just seal her up with silicone or something and test it? It ran fine in a test bucket at the gentlemen's house. Small hic-cup here and there but I think it was the coil grounding out threw crack. Everytime I heard a electrical sound coming from the coil, the idle changed not much but it did. Check pics.

2) Steering are is the only bad rust place. Still has old steering guts inside. How can I clear it out and use this steering tube guide or take it out and replace it with a new one? Check Pics

3) What year is this motor so I can get a proper manual for it? S/N OD243168

All in all, its a nice motor. Fires right up and sound awesome. Need some TLC and stuff here and there but has tremendous potential in my eyes.

Crap Im checking Ebay and Im not seeing any replacment tiller handles for this motor . Anybody have or know where I can get a tiller arm and cables from?

New tilt tube is available which is good.

See if a tiller off a Merc 25 will work.....I have one. Needs cables though. PM me and I can give you some info. I also have a transome bracket off a 25 if it will work.

If I buy the Tiller off of Will and cables from Crowley marine. Is that all I need to convert it back to using tiller?

Im hoping the 25hp bracket might work with my motor. It looks diffrent in the schematic but mabey theres a way to make it work.

If anyone had a bracket off of a 1993 Mercury 15HP or the 'same' style, that would rock big time.

This motor tuned out to need alittle more TLC than expected 'BUT', "It is what it is" Im just gonna stick with it.

Clear some space in your inbox. The tiller will work....same one used in 1985-present 9.9-25hp motors. Just make sure your motor isnt a side shift model, and the one that was made to shift through the tiller handle. Looks like there should more gadgets and linkages on the side of the motor (have those too). Other than that I don't think you need anything else...just the cables for it. The transom bracket is different, 25hp is a little bigger, but you may be able to rob some parts off of it to make yours work. Clear out some space for PM's and I will get you some pics of what I have either tomorrow or Thursday.

Box cleared. I got a couple of nasty bolts that I have to replace out with heat and CRC freeze out. And also 1 side of the bracket of the tilt tube. But one side of the bracket on the tilt tube isn't coming off.

Iv'e heated it up atleast 5-6 times and hit it from the side with solid blows, nothing. That damn bracket piece is being a real you know what. I thought the Heat + CRC Freeze out was invincible.

Im gonna give retreat abit on the bracket front and work on some other stuff tonight.

Well good news / bad news

I got the transom clamps off. But noticed a small crack in the swivel tube assembly.
So I found this on Ebay!! Hell yeah.

Now my question is how do I get off the old swivel tube assembly to put it on?

I see the bottom rubber shock mounts below and opened it up allowing the swivel tube to slide down but bottom of the mid section is in the way.
