Need INFO on 79' johnson 115

Hey i just bought this boat and motor and got some questions. first the motor tops off at bout 4,000 rpm is that where it should be?? cause i saw a few posts that said it should be at like 5,500 rpm, also what kinda prop should i use for skiing? do they make props that work better for sking?? thanx!!!

I have the same engine and have just done a lot of repairs to it myself thanks to this web page. i do not know much about the RPMs and such because i do not have a tach. However, I know a little about fixing a rectifier, stator and powerpaks.

I have this motor and use a 12 3/4 inch dia. 19 inch pitch on a 17 foot whaler. It tops out at about 5100 rpm. I also have a 21 inch pitch prop which gives quit a bit higher top speed but because I run through some rough ocean waters and prefer more ability to power over some big waves.<br /><br />Sherm

ok i got a 17ft bass baot and it only takes it like 30-35mph should it be going faster or do i have the wrong prop and how do i find the pitch and stuff im new to this
