need info on OB

Just got my hands on a freebie 85 HP Chrysler OB M#857HE shows to be a 1973 85HP. want to know wich one is the better OB for my Starcraft? Johnson 70HP or Chrysler 85HP???

just wondering cause if Chrysler is no good then i'm selling it..


this is not a for sale post just looking for info on the Chrysler OB..

Your best bet is to post in the OB forum. For my money, keep the Johnson. Around here where I live we call Chrysler and Force motors "anchors"

The Johnson would be your best choice. Still parts available, but there was an upgrade to the water circulation at the exhaust cooling area in the older Johnson 70 hp engines.

It routed the exhaust cooling water at the exhaust cover from expelling water from the bottom area, to expelling it to the top of the cover for the tell tale water, AKA pee hole.

Made the 70's almost bullet proof.

well disided to keep the johnson.. LOL anyone wanna buy a cheep boat anchor LOL...

probably gonna post it on CList or ebay for whole or part out....

Good choice keeping the Johnson. Just an FYI, if anyone is ever looking for anchor... I mean Chrysler parts get with Franzmarine.com he is the Chrysler parts guru and about the only person I found who even had them when I was fixing up a little 4hp I picked up.
