I ahve just aquired an older 9.6 hp Seaking outboard and would like to know several things about it. I am very green to boat motors so bare with me. Is it air cooled? Who made it? What year model is it? What is the proper oil/fuel ratio? What signs do I look for for over heating? I apologize for all the questions , but I would appreciate any help I can get. The info on the tag is as follows:

Sea King
BHP=9.6
Model#VWB27009A 17X
Serial#21540

Thanks a bunch!

Hello TBFH
Your motor is a 1970 model Sea King sold by monky wards. Your motor was made by Chrysler. The proper fuel ratio is 50:1. Your motor is water cooled,via a centrifical water pump with a rubber empeller. This pump is located on top of the lower unit. Do not operate engine with out water supply. There should be signs of water exiting with exhaust, from exhaust relief ports on the rear of the leg(exhaust housing). As you are new to outboards,I would suggest that you take a trip to your public library and bone up on the subject a little. This could save you a lot of grief. Please don't appologize for asking questions, thats what this board is all about. There is also a wealth of imfo on these boards. Most outboards are basicly the same and so are the problems. Basic in a general sence. Hope you enjoy your new to you motor. Let us know how you make out.

Alcan, thanks for the info. It is very much appreciated. I was thinking that it should be water cooled just based on the size of the outboard , but I couldn't find a water stream out let. Where does it intake the water from? I have ran it already @ 50:1 mix and that was right on the $$$ as it ran great. I also ran it in water as a safe guard. So far so good. Thanks again.

James
TBFH
