Re: need info please

Sure is hard to read that color of print,
Could be either a 305 Chevy or 302 Ford. Is a OMC, Mercruiser, Volvo?
IF the distributor is on the front of the engine, it's a Ford, and on the Back is a Chevy. But it doesn't matter what kind of engine it is, it depends on what distributor is in it, and who's engine it is.

Re: need info please

Now would be a good time to get some professional help. Either a qualified marine tech, or a friend that really(other than his own mind) understands IO boats and how they work.
Get them to at least explaine the basics.
Below is a link for an owners manual for a 2001 Mercruiser, Yea, it's not what you have, but it does cover a lot of basics. Download it, save it to your computer and read (understand) what it's saying.

Why don't you leave the text at default settings and quit making it so darned hard to read your questions.

Slow down....

IF, you would like these guys on this forum/thread to help......
Just take it one step at a time....

They are some great guys....ie...know their stuff. AND will help the novice!

SO, either...

A: give a direct question to a problem.....or
B. Give a good description of all problems (without the "It's got to be me right now, type stuff")

It sounds like your going out tomorrow with your girlfriend type stuff and I need it now.

Just SLOW DOWN and you will get your answers..

And by the way, I am, going out tomorrow with the girlfriend. Spose to be around 73*, on Lake Mead.

Thanks to these guys....

Re: need info please

I wonder if the replacement starter was a marine starter (ignition proof) or one from the auto parts store?

Auto Coil Ok, Marine Better

:)

what's the "hard way" to find out points have spark??? fill the bilge with propane and crank her???
If the points are showing much "spark", prolly need a new condenser, (and new points....)
Keep the receipt for the coil.... I'm not convinced it's the problem to say the least.
With an ohm meter one can test a coil in about 10 seconds....
I wonder if an ESA switch is just pushed, stuck, etc.....it's an 86 Cobra......
