Don't, I repeat, DON'T, leave an auto starter in a boat. They are not spark protected and you are setting yourself up for an explosion. Gas fumes settle in the bilge. Crank the engine over and the starter sparks. BOOM. That's a No No. Please replace it immediately with a properly sealed marine starter. We like reading about other boaters on this site; not hearing about them on the news. Remember my favorite boating line: Safe Boating. Good luck. Hy

Re: need info please

When I asked an old OMC tech , who was replacing my upper unit,to replace my points distributer with the the Mallory electronic I had in my hand; he refused.

He stated" this year came with points, I'm not going to deviate from the factory manual, as any problems come back on me, the point system works fine, with maintenance each year. And if the points go out, you keep spares on-board, and get re-started. If an electronic goes out, you are at the mercy of the sea."

I took his advice.
