Need Mariner help

I am looking at a 1990 8.0 HP 2 stroke long shaft Mariner that appears to be in excellent condition to push a drift boat. I don't know anything about the Mariners, other than they are a sister brand of Merc. The seller claims they are made for Salt water. Could you fill me in with more info.

The Mariner brand is a Merc with a different paint job. Their small engines are very reliable, and strong for their size. No more problems than any other, just keep the service up to them and they'll look after you for a long time (Just like anything else)....
