Ok that doesn't sound to bad of a price. I will get the prop back from the mechanic today and take another test run with it with the new hub in place. If that does not work i will check for other problems that have been mentioned so far.

Re: Need more power from 75 hp Evinrude

Well took the boat out again today for another test run...same propblem. I put in the prop this morning with the new hub installed (and yes I did let the hub cure for at least 48 hours before installing it to the lower unit. I picked up a few mores miles an hour today though, 27 instead of 27, and I didn't need to play with the trim to get the boat on a plane. I They are putting a new hub on it not and I will wait 72 hours this time before putting it back on. We all believe it was the mechanic who did not fix it right the first time. Any idea of if something else is going on with the motor. Oh, and I called the mechanic who worked on the powerhead and he said that all three cylinders were firing and He checked for a good compression in all cylinders. Any suggestions from anybody???

If it has good compression and spark on all cylinders, the only thing left is a fuel delivery problem. Have you pulled the high speed jets and checked them?

I have not checked them myself. I did get them rebuilt from the mechanic last week and I am taking it back to him so he can recheck the carbs. I would do it myself but I payed him an arm and a leg top get this thing fixed so I am taking it back to him tomorrow along with picking the prop back up with the new hub.

Do these "mechanics" water test their boats after "fixing" them? If it is acting as doggy as you say it is, then a good mech should notice that right off the bat...

No they are not, I wish they did. I do not live on a lake or near one, so in Memphis you really cannot find a mechanic to put the boat in the water for you and test drive it.

You do have a vent, that's open, on that gas tank...right?

Are you sure the new throttle cable is hooked up correctly? Is it opening the carbs up all the way?

You say that you now ditched the old tank, and have a new one.

Did you do that before or after the carbs were rebuilt? It sounds like you did it after.

If that's the case, I can almost guarantee that your carbs are gummed up again. That gas was probably very nasty, and went right back into your carbs after they were rebuilt.

I just had mine rebuilt.. the tank had sat for 2 years. I drained the tank (the fuel filter was solid tar/varnish), and replaced the filter. Went out.. boat ran fine (wouldn't even come close to planing before the carb rebuild), however the filters quickly got a bunch of tar-varnish in them again (it sticks to the walls of the tank and is hard to flush). After a few more runs of letting the disposable filters fill then tossing them, it's all about cleaned up. Moral of the story, I was sure to keep filters in-line (2 of them actually) until I knew the tank was good for fear of ruining my newly rebuilt carbs that I dropped $700 on. It's still not 100% out of there, but close.

Anyway, you can try a product that worked well for me in breaking down the varnish, and MIGHT clean it out of your carb if that's the case. It's called "StarBright Startron" or something like that. Look in the marine section at Wal-Mart.

But yeah if it's not getting over 3k rpm, you've got a fuel problem.. unless it's the throttle cable not opening the carbs up all the way.
