I have a 1997 Mariner 150 EFI on a 1997 1800dc Astro bass boat. At 5000 rpms I am running about 55mph! I do not have a jack plate. what can I do to add more speed to my boat?

Not an expert but start by checking the verticle height.
The antiventilation plate should be approximately even with the bottom of the boat.Try raising it from there one hole at a time until just before ventilation becomes a problem.Raising one inch could net 2-3 MPH.And some more rpm.Be sure water supply is not comprimised.
You should shoot for at least 5,500 rpm. Some would reccomend more. After careful trimming you could try a highperformance prop designed for speed. This will sacrifice hole shot and ski pulling somewhat. After you have yourself set up go over to the prop forum and tell them what you have done and the results.Let us know as well.Based on your present prop, rpm and speed they can make suggestions.

yes a jack plate will help. there will be less drag and the it gives you the ability to adjust your motor down for better out of the hole shots or up for better top end speed, better fuel efficiency, and more prop clearance in shallow water.

Go over to the prop section and read about the things people are told to do to solve your problem. Walleyead is an excellent source of answers to your questions.
