Yeah, that's what I'm scared of, I mean I could sell the boat, and never go on the water again, but am I still going to have it come back because I mow the lawn? or walk outside in the summer?? Heck I love snowboarding too, and guess what, sunburns come on the mountain too. It just really stinks.

www.Solumbra.com was the pioneer in SPF clothing, also known as Sun Precautions. I use the light jacket quite a bit. It is cooler than being bare in the sun most of the time. I also bought the expensive umbrella but haven't used it much yet. After seeing your horrible incision--my gosh--I will be more vigiland. I was bad today. We don't intend to be out all day with no sunblock--it happens hour by hour though.
I too will pay for years spent in the sun as a youngster and always feel like stopping the car whenever I see a little child out with no hat and no sunglasses.
When I grew up we didn't even know the word melanoma and were burned every other day.

Do you know those simple foam visors that have the curly wound elastic things to hold on your head? They stay on pretty well. My neat trick: go to the hobby store and get a sheet of the thin foam used for foam crafting; same stuff. I like black because it hides dirt. Cut it in the shape of a visor, only lots bigger, and wider at the ends so it covers your ears.Use the standard to make your outline then just push it away and draw a line to cut by. Punch two holes at the ends for the cord, about an inch in. Rob the curly cord from the one you just bought and put it on your new big one. Will cover your face much better, the sides of your face and your ears. Practice making them--they are cheap enough. The won't hold up going fast or if it's really windy, but are comfortable enough to wear all day, so that means you wear it.
Also sunscreen, of course. If you're thin haired you gotta wear the hat but Solumbra sells a light head cover too.

I would also like to see any good suggestions for face sunscreen. Durascreen used to make a stick that was terrific--could go right under my eyes and it didn't migrate into them--but they discontinued it. I can't stand greasy burning eyes. And most of the stuff tastes bad so I don't get it around my lips enough and have had stuff burned off there several times. it just comes back. I had my first basal cell and you are so right about making sure your doctor knows what he's doing. Try finding an expert. I found a great one after 3 not so great ones.

I feel so for you--with that sore leg--but don't stop living. I can't say it wouldn't be worth my life if I couldn't boat. I can't stay inside--I simply migrate out. You're on the right track with the bimini---KUDOS to the guy who protected his Irish wife. That's wonderful.

I've worked outside 40+/- hrs. a week since 1984,until 2 yrs. ago.And have used sunscreen, hats, and longsleeves for many yrs.I get burned easily now in a much shorter time than before, maybe because of my previous trying to hide, but it hurts more.Cover Up!!!!!

Another idea - in addition to the bimini consider getting your windows tinted. Not very pricy to do....only thing is it cuts down on visibility some.

On the car I've always had the windows tinted as dark as possible. :) Or are you talking about the boat?
