Re: Need more sun protection on the boat... had a melanoma. 2003 Bayliner 195BR
www.Solumbra.com was the pioneer in SPF clothing, also known as Sun Precautions. I use the light jacket quite a bit. It is cooler than being bare in the sun most of the time. I also bought the expensive umbrella but haven't used it much yet. After seeing your horrible incision--my gosh--I will be more vigiland. I was bad today. We don't intend to be out all day with no sunblock--it happens hour by hour though.
I too will pay for years spent in the sun as a youngster and always feel like stopping the car whenever I see a little child out with no hat and no sunglasses.
When I grew up we didn't even know the word melanoma and were burned every other day.
Do you know those simple foam visors that have the curly wound elastic things to hold on your head? They stay on pretty well. My neat trick: go to the hobby store and get a sheet of the thin foam used for foam crafting; same stuff. I like black because it hides dirt. Cut it in the shape of a visor, only lots bigger, and wider at the ends so it covers your ears.Use the standard to make your outline then just push it away and draw a line to cut by. Punch two holes at the ends for the cord, about an inch in. Rob the curly cord from the one you just bought and put it on your new big one. Will cover your face much better, the sides of your face and your ears. Practice making them--they are cheap enough. The won't hold up going fast or if it's really windy, but are comfortable enough to wear all day, so that means you wear it.
Also sunscreen, of course. If you're thin haired you gotta wear the hat but Solumbra sells a light head cover too.
