Re: Need motor advise?
Are you an experienced boater? If you dont have any currents or high wind concerns, the 5.5 for fity bucks sounds like at least a good start. If nothing else, you could use the 5.5 for now and keep looking for a bigger one.... maybe even keep the 5.5 for a trolling motor and add the other one next to it. Keep in mind the weather though..as I have been on a "small lake" when the wind came up with a wiener motor, and it takes f o r e v e r to get back to the dock...add the freezing rain and.... oh what memorable trips those were...brrrrrrrrrr The larger motor will pull the front end of the boat up under power too, which will help keep the waves from crashing over the bow.
Make sure you get the right length motor too. looks like an 18" standard would be your ticket.
Heres a pic of my 14' tinny with a 76 Evinrude 25hp. It was built before ratings required to be put on boat, but I have redone the transom with 1" maple, and there is no flex, so Im ok.
