Need new control box ...

I need some help please. I have called every place around for a used control box ... none available. I have also checked EBay and found a few that might work. But I'm concerned that one repair place told me that Tracker controls were unique and I would have to change out all cables, etc from motor ... is this true? I was hoping to be able to get a new control box and use the existing cables I have (listed below). Also, if I cannot find a reasonable control with tilt/trim ... can I use a separate switch? What about separate ignition/choke/kill? Thanks again!

From the motor it has:
the steering cable
Battery cables
the wiring harness from the red plug to a eight pin connector with
Black/Yellow | Red/Gray
Yellow/Red | Black
Purple/White | Gray
Tan? | Purple

another wiring harness to a six pin connector with
NO PIN | Gray
Brown/White | Black
Gray/White | Red

A model number sure would help to answer your questions accurately

Sorry, thought I had typed that in ... the boat is a 1990 Suntracker Bass Buggy DL, motor is a Johnson Tracker 60 model # TJ60TLESM

Thanks!

OK, that is a bit new for me to have any first hand experience on. However, I looked it up in the parts book and they show no distinction between the Tracker and regular Johnson control. Both are part number 0432716. Even the decal is the same, 0327490.

As for your suggestion about mounting separate switches, of course that can be done but be aware that some other important stuff is in the control box. The warning horn, The start in neutral only switch, The kill switch, to name a few.

I ran into the same thing when needing to change my control box, I could not find one at the time with tilt/trim. Found one one ebay and mounted a seperate switch for the tilt/trim and has work just fine. Just be sure to match switch to power demands of tilt/trim, got mine at Radio Shack, they have a good selection of switches.

OK, thanks ... I was thinking that those would be able to be wired separately from the ignition, etc.

Does anyone know if its true that tracker boats need a different control box. I find that very hard to believe.I would ALMOST bet an OMC box would be fine

I bought one on EBay today, hopefully it will work. Is it possible that my existing cables will work or will I need new ones?

if you bought an omc box,the cables should be fine, assuming you bought an omc box and have an omc engine
