Hello I am looking to find a certified (if possible) OMC mechanic. I am in the Lake Wallenpaupack area (northeast pa). Any help would be appreciated as not too many people are willing to work on the OMC and those who do are not really sure how to fix them, in the end costing my $$$$. Thanks for your help.

OMC went out of buisness over 10 years ago so thier factory training and certification programs are gone. This is why no one other than the rare old timers who used to work on them know what they are doing.

Bombardier still mantains a certified dealer network for the OMC sterndrive. They, at least, require the service dealers to have all necessary tools and manuals before they are allowed to buy parts. (and many are still available or re-produced) but it would be hard to imagine that they would have any kind of realistic training or certification programs.

You are correct that there are no new qualified people jumping in. The 'dealers' probably mostly consist of the old timers that are staying qualified to just hang on.

We are fortunate in the Portland/Vancouver area to have one such fellow. He currently gets units shipped in from all over the country where 'other experts' messed things up. He gets units from Hawaii and Alaska as well.

Some people are just very reluctant to swap out their OMC's for the overly complex basket full of gimbal's, bearings, cables, pumps, rams, alignments, u-joints, bellows, etc, ad nauseum.;)

That's why I still have three of these beasts. I like the simplicity. I'm tearing into one right now. The biggest problem I see with the OMC's are the special tools needed to complete some of the tasks like bearing shimming.

Hi there! I like your location & totally agree :) I see you like Nockamixon, but they don't allow >20HP boats. Closest lakes are Beltzville or Blue Marsh which are both 1.5 hrs away :( Love this area, but man, I miss where I grew up in the middle of the Finger Lakes in NY!

we have the delaware 13 miles away...thats like a middle finger lake:D

the newer, running, usable boat is too big for nockamixon. abd beltzville is waaay far. good smallie fishing on the river by the tacony.

jim, i can stop by bry's marine 2moro and ask if he knows of anyone in your area (he's in neptune) even northern jersey may be do-able (rt 80 or 78 to me is north jersey). if i find anything, i'll post friday (work 2moro nite)
