I was also looking to buy another engine:

1990 140 HP - Envinrude. Brand new power head - 50 hrs. What do you think of this engine? It has the separate oil tank for the VRO. But I would prefer to mix my oil w/ the gas. Is that OK?

Overall, is this a good engine?

That's a good tough engine.

You can disconnect the oil injection, but I wouldn't.

The system is quite reliable, if maintained.

If you buy it, prop it to run a minimum of 5500 RPM at Wide Open Throttle.

Pure junk. Tell the seller to call me, I'll get him to ship it to me so the market won't be burdened with stuff like that.

Seriously, the V4 looper is a great motor. Properly set up I'd put it up against a 150 crossflow any day. If it were mine I'd look for 5800 as the target rpm with an average load. 6000 is nothing to that motor. I'd leave the oil injection working too. As long as it's the newer 4 wire pump.

Well, I was going to ask whether or not it is a looper as I highly prefer them over crossflows, but D you provided that info. That just makes it that much sweeter a deal.

D, I looked Charlotte and Port Charlotte up on mapsco the other day. Looks like y'all have a lot of maritime/residence interfaces there.

Heard it got whacked pretty hard by a bad hurricane a couple of years ago. Don't remember which one tore the place up. By your notes looks like the rebuilding process is lengthy.

Yep, Charley came to visit on Friday the 13th in August 2 years ago. Smacked us pretty good. It came right up Charlotte Harbor - Punta Gorda on the south and Port Charlotte on the noth side of the harbor. There are still houses that need to be torn down and a bunch still under re-construction. We (me & wifey) were very lucky, minimal damage, nothing a new roof and fixing some cracked walls couldn't fix.

Just got my new homeowners insurance yesterday. Almost 40 years without a claim until Charley. It went up over 300%. No wonder folks are flocking out of here.

I got a 1990 120 Looper. Its a tuff engine. Beware of VRO. Let me down a few years back and caused a rebuild. I mixed after that and just recently found my reason for melt down . I was trouble shooting power loss problem and dissiambled VRO and found diaphram busted. The one that sucks the oil in. I figure thats what got me to begin with. the alarms on the thing did not work. And I thought it was kind of wierd how they supply a plug right on the VRO just to cap the oil inlet side off. Go figure. I will only get bit once. good luck with yours
